    Saturday Morning

    The Cooling

Steel that is worked without rest grows brittle; the smith who never lets the metal cool is the one who breaks the blade.

    The Practice

This morning, do nothing productive for the first hour you are awake. Make a hot drink, hold the cup with both hands, and let the warmth move into your fingers before you check a single screen. Walk to a window and look at something far away to let your eyes — and your nervous system — release their grip. Recovery is not the absence of work; it is the part of the work where the metal sets.
