    The Slow Morning

Rest is not the reward for the work. It is part of the machinery that makes the work possible.

    The Practice

This morning, refuse the first impulse to be useful. Stay with one slow ritual — tea, a book read in print, the light through the window — for as long as it holds you. Notice the urge to check, to plan, to optimize, and let it pass without acting on it. The mind that never idles eventually seizes; idling on purpose is maintenance, not laziness.
